Give your first impressions of 2009 Fall anime
THE BEST *Nyan Koi (9/10) Not as humorous as Excel Saga or Lucky Star, but still funny, charming and very cute- this is my fave this year. Its pretty original and not so predictable you get annoyed. *Armed Librarians (8/10) Engaging dark adventure, but can't compete with classics like Death Note so far. Characters are mostly original, though not interesting yet. Also unpredictable, but mostly since the world is new to me. Lots of potential. If there is one anime you must see, its probably this.
Reply to this TopicTHE GOOD *Aoi Bungaku (7/10) Very dark and cool, but mature- even had a sex scene. I hear its supposed to be many short stories like pulp fiction or Japan maybe? Keep an eye on this one. *Queen's Blade 2 (7/10) Try the first episode of season 1, if you like, then be assured the whole series continues the fun formula. Some may say this anime is kind of shallow and loaded with fan service, but thats the point, it doesn't try to be anything else and works on what its good at, being entertaining.
THE OK* 11 Eyes (4/10) Remember that anime where high school kids go into another dimension to fight monsters? Oh wait, there were like TEN OF THEM ALREADY. Bleach, Shana, Gantz... 11eyes has potential but so far misses a bar raised many times before it with those shows. Try them first. It slightly tweaks the formula with unexplained stuff which may keep your interest, but is loaded with cliches which just don't belong in a NEW suspenseful adventure. To add to that, extremely boring fights and "monsters".
THE BAD* Kobato (2/10) It's CLAMP, so an automatic 2 for great artwork. Everything else is utterly boring. It feels like bad filler. A cute girl goes around doing cute girl stuff for people, but the motives are weak and the scenarios not engaging, for example: "The baby won't stop crying!" Are you f'n serious?! It would be fun if it was Konata, Chobits, or many other anime girls who can make the everyday so fun and entertaining, but this female lead fails hard, she is boring and uninteresting.
I give Nyan Koi an 8/10. Its loaded with kawaii kitties and a few cute girls too. It has lots of potential, provided it doesn't get stale later on. Armed Librarians gets a 9/10. Im really into this story and cannot wait for new episodes! Its my favorite new anime of the season.
REVISED OPINION* Armed Librarians (10/10) Ok, let me revise my opinion now that I've seen episode 4, which was insanely good with a crazy fight, but more importantly it also let the characters breath and develop. When it does this, it works out really well, making the anime very touching. The world is becoming quite fascinating and engrossing. This might become the best anime of the year and a classic. Now I can't wait for the next episode! You have to see all four current episodes too! Yes, you!
