- Political Art, Erich Fried, Under the Radar screen, Love Poems, Resist, Power, Compasssion, Gedichte, Censored artists. Erich Fried was a poet and storyteller. His experiences were shaped by various events during his lifetime, including his adolescence in pre-war Austria. He was forced to flee Vienna in 1938, after his father's murder by the Gestapo. He lived in exile, mostly in London, until his death in 1988. Behind Fried's delight in oddities, in the ridiculous nature of human existence, there was a deep sadness caused by the shadow of the murder of his family, the subsequent events during the Holocaust, and many other injustices around the world. A well-known artist in exiile, but without the approval of contemporary politicians of his day, he continued to do his best to "wake people up' - as we try to say today. His efforts were not in vain, as many people across the globe share the same sentiments: a life devoted towards peace and understanding. We shall continue....
