- Description
- It is estimated that about 33,000 wild horses and burros are roaming on BLM-managed rangelands. Wild horses have almost no natural predators and their herd sizes can double about every four years. As a result, the BLM has to remove animals from the range each year to control herd sizes and keep the mustangs from dieing of starvation. Off the range, there are nearly 30,000 other wild horses that are fed and cared for at short-term and long-term holding facilities. To ensure that herd sizes are in balance with other public rangeland resources and uses, the BLM removed 7,726 wild horses and burros from the range in 2007. The BLM is doing everything that they can to keep he mustangs free, but its a win lose situation. If we simply left them all free than they would all starve to death. The BLM has recently made several emergency gatherings because there were bands that were at the brink of starvation-You could see their bones. As is the BLM sets the healthier, sturdier horses back so that when they breed the foals will be more likely to survive. We all want for the mustangs to be free, but not all of them can. Trust me, if they could we would let them. But your video leads people to believe that the BLM is doing evil when all they're doing is saving the mustangs.
