I'm a Psychology and English major in college, and I use iMovie HD, so none of my AMVs are going to have spectacular and impressive effects -- but to be honest I doubt I'd use that many even if I could, because sometimes people use too many and it's just distracting (looks like they're trying too hard). Besides, none of the really great AMVs I've seen use a lot of effects.
