He is a Genin level ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village, but dreams of one day becoming Hokage. Twelve years ago, during the time he was born, the Nine Tailed Demon Fox attacked the village. The skillful Forth Hokage sealed the demon fox away into a newborn baby, Naruto. As he grew up, the villagers of the Leaf Village disliked Naruto because they saw him as the Nine Tailed Demon Fox. The Fourth Hokage who sealed the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox away though, wanted the village to see Naruto as a hero, who saved the village from being destroyed. This was also carried on by the Third Hokage, so Naruto could make friends with the children his age who had no idea about the fox being inside Naruto. Naruto looks up to his sensei Iruka Umino as a father figure. Iruka was also the first person to acknowledge Naruto as a unique individual student and eventually graduated him from the Ninja Academy, awarding him with his head protector. Naruto later on became the student of Kakashi along with Sakura, the girl he likes, and Sasuke, the one he sees as a rival. Naruto is often looked up to by Konohamaru and his friends Moegi and Udon. On the mission to escort Tazuna to the Wave Country, Naruto was able to change a boy named Inari's feelings about being a hero and was also able to change the way Zabuza thought of Haku. While fighting Haku, he released partial powers of the Demon Fox for the first time when he thought that Sasuke was dead. Later on, in the first stage of the Chunin selection exam, Naruto was able to pass without even answering a single question on paper. In the second stage, Orochimaru was able to seal away the powers of the Demon Fox, causing Naruto's chakra to be unstable and unable to use the powers of the Kyuubi. In the third stage preliminaries, Naruto faced Kiba, and was able to defeat Kiba using his Transformation Jutsu. For the training month before the final stage, Kakashi asked Ebisu to train Naruto. Naruto, however, didn't like the idea. Later, during his training in the hot springs, Ebisu was knock unconscious by Jiraiya's frog. As a result, Naruto demanded that Jiraiya supervise his training. Jiraiya eventually did and was also able to unseal the sealing that Orochimaru placed on his Kyuubi. Thus giving Naruto the ability to control his chakra better and unleash the powers of the Demon Fox. Naruto was also taught by Jiraiya how to summon his frogs. Because Jiraiya wanted Naruto to use his Demon Fox's powers, Naruto was pushed down into a cliff valley, causing Naruto to call upon the Nine Tailed Demon Fox's powers and summon Gamabunta. Gamabunta would later take Naruto in as his subordinate. In the third stage finals, Naruto faced Neji Hyuuga, who he was able to defeat using his Shadow Clone Jutsu. During the invasion of the Leaf Village, Naruto faced Gaara in battle. Naruto understood that Gaara was like Naruto, lonely with a demon inside of him. Naruto tried to tell Gaara that life is worth living for others, rather than for oneself. Gaara ignored Naruto and fought with him saying that the only reason to exist is for oneself. People bring nothing, but pain and will run away in moments of pressure. Gaara, who was getting beaten, transformed into his final form - the Shukaku, Naruto summoned Gamabunta to assist in battle and was able to defeat Gaara. Gaara realized that Naruto was just like him and that it was other people that made one strong. After the attack on the Leaf Village, Jiraiya is asked to become the Fifth Hokage by the Village's elders. He declines the offer, however, and instead decides to locate Tsunade, also one of the Legendary Sannin, and have her become the Fifth. The elders offer to have an ANBU squad accompany him, but he refuses. Aside from the fact that traveling with an ANBU squad would only make Tsunade harder to find, he already has someone he wants to take: Naruto. Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki, two members of Akatsuki, are searching for Naruto, so Jiraiya is taking Naruto to protect him. Naruto initially doesn't want to go, but Jiraiya offers to teach him a powerful technique, which instantly sells Naruto on the idea. Despite Jiraiya taking him along for the trip, Itachi and Kisame do eventually find them. Using a hypnotized woman to draw Jiraiya away, the two attempt to kidnap Naruto. The arrival of Sasuke slows them slightly, even though he is easily beaten by his brother Itachi. Regardless, the short delay is enough time for Jiraiya to arrive and force the two Akatsuki to retreat. Later, Naruto and Jiraiya continue on the search for Tsunade, and eventually find her. Naruto, at the same time, as learning to do the Rasengan by Jiraiya. It only took him a week to learn the Rasengan, a move in which Fourth Hokage took 3 years to learn. Naruto learning the Rasengan helped convince Tsunade to become the Fifth Hokage. Once back in the Leaf Village, Sasuke was in the hospital angry. He could not understand why his brother wanted Naruto as opposed to him. Sasuke challenges Naruto to fight on the hospital roof, and the fight began, but was stopped by Kakashi before any serious attacks could be made. As Sasuke's rage grew he accepted an offer from Orochimaru for more power, and left the Hidden Leaf Village. Naruto was instructed to search for Sasuke and bring him back. He made the promise of a life time to a crying Sakura who wanted Sasuke back in the village. Naruto went with Chouji, Shikamaru, Neji, and Kiba. At the end though, it was Naruto against Sasuke. Naruto tried his best to convince Sasuke to come back and not to go to Orochimaru, but was simply ignored. Sasuke said that he needs to break his bonds with the Hidden Leaf Village so he can become stronger to defeat Itachi. Naruto wouldn't take that for an answer and fought with Sasuke. The fight went to the point of Sasuke unlocking a level two Cursed Seal and Naruto unlocking some of the Nine-Tailed Fox's power. The fight had been going on for a while, and at this point, the two rivals clashed in a final display of power, as Naruto attacked with a one-tailed demon fox-powered Rasengan, and Sasuke with a level two Cursed Seal of Heaven-powered Chidori. Upon impact, a massive black dome of energy forms around the two. Sasuke hesitates, striking Naruto with the back of his hand instead of the One Thousand Birds, and sparing his life, as he realizes that killing Naruto to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan would be exactly what Itachi wanted. He chooses to leave Naruto unconscious but alive on the ground, thus giving up his chance to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan and proving that he is indeed not like his brother and that Naruto is, ultimately, the person most important to him. In the aftermath Kakashi finds Naruto - hanging on to Sasuke's old headband (which Naruto has managed to scratch as his final act before losing consciousness) and returns him to the Leaf Village for medical treatment. Sasuke, on the other hand, descends to the darkness, heading for Orochimaru, and in his mind resolving (to Itachi): "I will not be your puppet! I will gain power in my own way! I will surpass you in my own way!". Naruto was depressed because he was unable to bring Sasuke back both because he wanted him back as well as because he was unable to fulfill his promise to Sakura. Sakura told Naruto that it was okay, but Naruto knew that Sakura was just saying that to make him feel better. Jiraiya comes to Naruto shortly after and warns Naruto of the dangers soon to face him. The evil criminal organization, Akatsuki (which Itachi is a part of) is after the Nine-Tailed Fox inside of him, and that Naruto must work hard to defend himself. Jiraiya continues and scolds Naruto, telling him that he must forget about Sasuke because at this point Naruto can't do anything to bring him back to the good side. With the troubles ahead of him, as well as the though of bringing back Sasuke, Naruto eventually leaves the Hidden Leaf Village with Jiraiya for training.
