- Description
- If you drive to work, imagine how much money you would save by not having to fill up on gas for your daily commute. Instead of fuel, you would plug in your car to an electrical outlet, much like you already do with your laptop or cell phone. That's the concept behind the 2007 Chevrolet Volt. Dubbed as the next generation electric car, it was the talk of this year's Detroit Auto Show. Capable of running 40 miles on its initial charge, it re-charges itself as it moves down the road. Driven by electricity and an alternative power source, a small internal ethanol powered engine creates enough power to restore the battery. With new improvements in lithium battery technology, this concept car could soon become a reality. The Volt is expected to be available for consumers in 2010. Produced for General Motors
