- Description
- The effects of "Contrails" on the environment is becoming more evident and it is believed that nighttime or evening air traffic can increase global temperature rises by up to 2% resulting from artificial cirrus clouds trapping in heat that would normally escape into a clear sky. Conversely daytime flights have a cooling effect due to the cloud formations reflecting sunlight back into space. While this would appear to be a net zero, a few studies have indicated that the warming effect is greater than the cooling effect. Some researchers have suggested that changing altitudes for night flights or reducing evening traffic could offset the effect. During the days following 911, researches collected valuable data due to the grounding of commercial flights over the US. The study showed an increase in diurnal temperature variations of 2-3 degrees Fahrenheit. This increased temperature fluctuation dropped back to previous levels once air traffic resumed. While this terrible and unfortunate tragedy gave researchers a clear indication of "Contrails" effect on diurnal fluctuations, it is unknown what effect this has on the natural cycle of species on the planet. "Contrails" are formed by particles in jet exhaust and water vapor frozen into tiny droplets that allow a base for clouds to form at high altitudes where the temperature is below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. A growing number of people dispute this reasoning and believe "Contrails" are actually "Chemtrails" loaded with chemical substances as part of a Government Conspiracy. While I have no personal opinion on the conspiracy theory, I do see "Comtrails" frequently and the artificial clouds have affected solar testing for a few minutes up to a half an hour. In this video you can see a "Contrail" cast a shadow on the cloud beneath it.
