- Le village de Ry, après son homologue « Rue » en Picardie, aurait été créé au Xe siècle par des vikings danois venus de Ry, dans la région de Rye, au centre du Jutland (Danemark). Certaines familles y portent encore des noms danois francisés. Une autre étymologie fait venir le nom du village de ritum (gué en gaulois).
