You should try the Vampire Hunter D movies then! Bloodlust is the newer one its one of the new classics.

Oh sorry I didn't tell you if it gets good, well, my friend who seen lots of anime told me it doesn't become super good or special but he also said it wasn't completely bad and ended up ok and eventually got a little better, though he also told me I'd be better off watching other shows since DtB is like 25 eps and another OVA and season after it! Oh also, since you like Vampire Knight do you like vampire anime and manga?

I dropped than anime, its got great music and some cool character styles, but it was unbelievably boring. Have you tried Higurashi or Gantz? I'd say if you're going to invest time and want something interesting and all those are perfect. Also the old movies Ghost in the Shell and Akira are must sees!
